That kind of world is interesting, but there’s all this prep work that you need to do with your data so it can answer your questions. Having your data in your organizational silo databases isn’t going to help you. You’re probably going to need to have it aggregated into some kind of data lake, with structure and security. You have to get the information governance right and put the sensitivity labels on all your data so it doesn’t get exposed. THE VENDOR VALUE PROPOSITION It would help if vendors could stop talking about AI and start talking about their value proposition. They are losing sight of their fundamental marketing mission which is to explain their features and benefits to customers. It would be helpful if they could just simply layout their product, here’s what it does, here’s what it can do for you. AI is sort of at the peak of its hype cycle now. Realistically, it’s going to disappear very soon. It’s just going to be part of the product. It’s not going to be special. Everyone’s going to have AI. It won’t be special in the not-too-distant future. So, going back to marketing 101 and saying, “Here is our product. Here are its features and
work out what your AI operations look like to support all this AI use. It’s going to need some planning and it’s going to need some training potentially. AI will certainly make things faster. It’ll depend on the inputs if it’s going to make things better. This comes down—especially in the generative AI space—to the quality of the prompts that you’re putting in. Prompt engineering becomes an important skill to have. Let’s take an example. We’ve got all these multiple apps on our phones that you maybe use once a year. Generative AI can understand our language now. In the future, I imagine we’ll have a large language model on our phones. It’ll learn about us and it’ll be customized to us. We won’t have all the apps, we’ll just have the generative AI as our interface. We’ll either type something or talk to it and say something like, “Play my favorite song.” Because it’s on your phone, it’ll know you. It’ll know what your favorite song is. It’ll know what streaming service your favorite song is on. It’ll be able to go out through its API, bring back your favorite song, and stream it to you.
