careful. Garbage in, garbage out. Are you taking steps to make sure that the data that you’re putting into your corporate generative AI pool is going to give you good results? This needs to be an extraordinarily thoughtful process that will be happening a lot this year. THE OUTLOOK ON AI The question isn’t so much, “Should we be doing something with generative AI?” It’s really, “What should we be doing and how fast should we do it?” One of the most significant things about generative AI is that this is something unlike most new technologies, and I deal with new technologies all the time. This is one that—when I’m talking to the C-Suite of our customers—I find that they have personal experience with generative AI. That was not true of blockchain. That has certainly not been true of mixed reality, virtual reality, and augmented reality. These were all things that people have read about and formed an opinion about without using them. With generative AI, they’re coming from much more actual personal experience and that’s part of what’s giving them the confidence to move forward. They understand the power
that’s held is shifting from being not only structured data, but also unstructured data. What generative AI can do is it can look into the whole repository of data that a corporation has, which is significant legacy information. We’ve gone from being the statistics that a company has to the information that a company has. Those two changes are monumental. TRUST & SECURITY Not all unstructured data is data that you want in your generative AI. Now you must ask yourself if you want that to go into your generative AI data feed or not. These are the judgments that need to be made so that you can understand whether you can trust the unstructured data that’s going into your generative AI data pool. With the security component, how are you handling that? How secure are you with the data that goes into your generative AI and just in general? As corporate assets get rendered as digital twins, you must handle those with great security. Trust and security are the foundational things that are going to be necessary to make generative AI take off. You’ve got to be super
