Empowering School Foodservice Heroes | April 2025

PONDER Do you host interns from local col- lege nutrition programs in your school nutrition department? In order to complete program re- quirements, students spend time in school nutrition to learn all aspects of food service operations. Bonus, dietitians can also use this for their own professional development too! Mentoring interns is a large part of the “pay it forward” that our team commits to annually to encourage the next generation of school nutri- tion professionals! During this year’s Mystery Chef Competition - several interns got into the act of innovating in their own kitchens to earn valu- able hands-on experience in the field of child nutrition! Check out Maken-

na’s creative and well-marketed sub- mission here , and also the practical application of recipe costing here . The winner of the “Meaningful Men- tor” superlative was Andrew Mendez, Nutrition Services Director Kenston Local Schools and his intern for their submission.
