The Last Bite! with Chef Sharon Schaefer
The MOMologue by Stacy Cardinale
Hi. I’m Stacy. I ammany things, including but not limited to, a mom, a wife, a daughter, a friend, a creator, an amazing lip- syncer, an empath, and an overall good time. I have an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University and I enjoy painting, photography, drinking wine, eating french fries, and crafting. I have been married for 10 years (cocktail please!!) and together we have made two amazing humans (another cocktail please!!). Our son Anthony (7) and our daughter Sloan (4) have non-stop energy and in the rare instance they are not talking they are eating all the snacks. I am typically the “go-to” person for my friends who are seeking advice, a non-judgmental ear, perspective, a good venting session, or even just a hug (I am also a master hugger). I believe that human connection is of the utmost importance and that kindness is cool. Have you ever had a thought that caused a spark in you?

Since childhood Sharon was on a quest to make healthy food taste great! That love of all things delicious led her to The Culinary Institute of America. After completing her externship at The Food Network, Sharon discovered a world of how to share great food through media. Owner of Evolution of the Lunch Lady, LLC, and Director of Food and Nutrition Services for Gretna Public Schools, Chef Sharon Schaefer, SNS frequently takes her culinary chops and K12 experience on the road as a highly sought after Key Note Speaker and school nutrition trainer. January is every chef’s opportunity to look back at the past year with a sense of nostalgia. My journey with Served has provided me the opportunity to share some of my favorite topics. Here’s a review of the fun we had in 2021:
A spark that grew into a full- blown passion! The more you thought about it and the more you realized it could come to fruition and then BOOM, it happens. Fear starts to creep in. You begin to fear the unknown. You obsessively play the “what if” game almost to the point of talking yourself out of what sparked passion in the first place? Well, the good news is you’re human and your instincts are aligned with what is intrinsically and very naturally embedded in all of us. Let’s take a trip into the past, shall we? Have youever heardof theflight or fight response? It goes back to our ancient ancestors. It is a reaction to danger. Think of it like if you’re being chased by a bear, terrifying, your mind and body automatically react by releasing hormones and promoting other physical changes to prepare us to fight or flee from these dangerous situations. It’s a survival mechanism and I could go on and on, but I digress. My point is this. When you feel passionate about something, and the fear takes over we tend to embrace the scary feelings and we just want to retreat. We don’t want to deal with all these negative, self-limiting
beliefs and we give up. We fail before we even began. Think about that. You were so passionate about something and then sabotaged yourself to not even trying!?!? I say we go for it and not deny that spark! Use that feeling of fear to fuel your passion. Make it work for you, not against you. Lean into it! Your passion will drive you to success and failure will be so far in the rear-view you’ll wonder how you ever let it have that much influence in keeping you from living your best life. Failure is not even trying, not he other way around. Go turn that passion into a reality. The harder you fight the more rewarding your success will be. Can you even imagine how good it will feel when you can say you did it! That you made a commitment to yourself and overcame all the burdens, real or self- created. What an amazing feeling that will be! Don’t deny yourself this. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do that the ones you did do.” Mark Twain
