GENYOUth is the premier thought leader on youth perspectives in school-based physical activity and nutrition. Our Youth Insights research surveys a nationally representative sample of students (ages 13-18), uncovering critical issues affecting today’s youth.

Key Findings from the 2024 Survey 85% of youth face barriers to meeting national physical activity guidelines, citing lack of energy, time, and interest. School-based PE is the top source of physical activity, but improvements are needed to foster a judgment-free, supportive environment. Skipping meals, including breakfast , is common among high school students, impacting both physical activity and academic focus.
Implications for Schools and Stakeholders
GENYOUth shares these insights with key stakeholders, including USDA’s Healthy Meal Summit and the President’s Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition, elevating youth perspectives on a national scale.
Equitable access to school meals and physical activity is essential for student health and academic success. Beyond access , creating enjoyable, relevant, and stigma-free experiences is key to participation. Engaging students directly ensures programs in both cafeterias and gymnasiums meet their needs.
