MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP

For over a decade, America’s dairy farmers and the NFL have been foundational partners of GENYOUth, demonstrating the power of collective action to improve youth wellness. Their continued support has driven meaningful progress and inspired many others to join our mission. This annual report highlights our achievements, and the collective impact we are making together to ensure children are well-nourished and physically active to be their best selves. Because of the invaluable engagement of GENYOUth’s partners and supporters, we are continuing to make great strides—expanding school meal and physical activity access, providing essential equipment, and uplifting youth voice in programs that foster healthier lifestyles. As the well-being of youth faces continued challenge, GENYOUth’s work is more critical than ever. One in five U.S. children faces food insecurity, and diet-related chronic diseases are rising. Most fall short of nutrition recommendations for whole grains, dairy, fruits, and vegetables, leading to low intake of key nutrients like calcium, Vitamin D, fiber, potassium, and iron. At the same time, fewer than 1 in 4 children get enough daily physical activity, with girls at even greater risk. Closing these gaps is essential to their health, well- being, and academic success. At GENYOUth, in our continued partnership with the public and private sectors, we are committed to closing these gaps through: • Expanding access to nutrient-rich foods—dairy, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains—to help bridge critical nutrient gaps. • Boosting school meal participation, especially breakfast programs. • Modernizing nutrition education. • Increasing physical activity opportunities. • Inspiring lifelong healthy habits. Thank you for your dedication and for taking the time to review our many advancements and key initiatives in 2024. Together, we are shaping a healthier future for the next generation.

INCREASING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

NFL FLAG-In-School NFL FLAG-In-School builds a foundation of healthy, lifelong physical activity in a non-competitive, character-building, and inclusive environment—making the game accessible to all students. In 2024, 4,600 school and community based organizations received the program. “I really like the FLAG-In-School middle school lessons. I like how it shows the kids doing the drills as well as showing a diagram of what the feet should be doing. I also think that the 101 nutrition tips are very helpful to share with students. Some we have done already but there are a few new ones I would like to incorporate in my classes.” ~PE Teacher, NY

Every single public school in the state of Nevada is playing NFL FLAG-In-School.

“Flag football has become a huge sport at our school and around our community. I coached a 5th grade co-ed team this spring and we competed against other elementary schools in the district and the kids absolutely loved it. Our students also play daily at recess and we do a few two- week flag football units in PE. The girls’ interest in flag football has been the coolest to see, we have more then tripled our female participation. Flag football is a great sport and I love teaching it in PE and coaching it outside of school hours as well.” ~PE Teacher, WA

Crafted to combat the steep decline in girls’ involvement in physical activity at age 13, this program addresses how developing healthy habits around physical activity, nutrition, sleep, and social media education can boost confidence and social engagement. Root4All in Nevada In February 2024, GENYOUth and Dove partnered to host a star studded event in Las Vegas - bringing together Venus Williams, Steve Young and Ciara to #KeepHerConfident by building body confidence for girls in sports. As a result of the partnership, all 60 middle schools in Clark County were awarded Root4All kits.

YOUTH INSIGHTS AND ENGAGEMENT

Leading Youth Insights on Physical Activity and Nutrition in Schools

FALL 2024

SPRING 2024

GENYOUth is the premier thought leader on youth perspectives in school-based physical activity and nutrition. Our Youth Insights research surveys a nationally representative sample of students (ages 13-18), uncovering critical issues affecting today’s youth.

CLICK THE REPORTS TO LEARN MORE!

Key Findings from the 2024 Survey 85% of youth face barriers to meeting national physical activity guidelines, citing lack of energy, time, and interest. School-based PE is the top source of physical activity, but improvements are needed to foster a judgment-free, supportive environment. Skipping meals, including breakfast , is common among high school students, impacting both physical activity and academic focus.

Implications for Schools and Stakeholders

GENYOUth shares these insights with key stakeholders, including USDA’s Healthy Meal Summit and the President’s Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition, elevating youth perspectives on a national scale.

Equitable access to school meals and physical activity is essential for student health and academic success. Beyond access , creating enjoyable, relevant, and stigma-free experiences is key to participation. Engaging students directly ensures programs in both cafeterias and gymnasiums meet their needs.
