F ew workplace phrases create quite as much tension as your boss saying, “Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?” Maybe your shoulders tighten, your heart races, or your face gets flushed. It can be a director addressing a missed deadline, a manager highlighting a production issue, or a colleague offering input on a project. Feedback can feel personal, especially when it isn’t delivered with care. However, feedback doesn’t have to be a final judgment of someone’s personality or potential. It can be a tool for learning, connection, and growth. In my work as a public speaker and workshop facilitator, I’ve seen how changing a few words can alter the entire conversation.
