Your son or daughter has been nominated for NxtGen Ambassadors — a national program that trains high school students to become authentic advocates, content creators, and advisors for school nutrition programs across the country. This letter explains what the program is, what participation involves, what we ask of your family, and how to reach us with any questions. We want you to have the full picture before your student submits their application or you sign the consent form. WHAT NXTGEN AMBASSADORS IS NxtGen Network is a content creation and marketing company specializing in the food, beverage, and school nutrition industries. We work with school districts, manufacturers, and national organizations to tell the story of school food — and to change the way students, parents, and communities perceive it. NxtGen Ambassadors is our student program. We believe the most credible voices for school nutrition are the students eating those meals every day. This program gives them the platform, training, and support to use that voice — locally and nationally.
The program offers two tracks:
LOCAL TRACK Working with their own school district to strengthen the existing student ambassador program.
NATIONAL TRACK Joining a growing cohort of student ambassadors from districts across the country — connected through virtual calls, in-person events, and content creation.
WHAT YOUR STUDENT WILL LEARN NxtGen Ambassadors is a professional development program as much as it is an advocacy program.
Food Photography & Video Capturing and producing content about food and school meals — lighting, composition, editing, and storytelling.
Social Media Strategy How to build an audience, create content with purpose, and use platforms to drive real conversations.
Branding & Marketing How brands communicate, how campaigns are built, and how to apply those skills to a cause they care about.
Media & Public Speaking How to present ideas clearly and confidently — in interviews, on podcasts, and in front of audiences.

Leadership Development Working as part of a national team, mentoring peers, and taking ownership of real projects with real stakes.
WHAT PARTICIPATION LOOKS LIKE We designed this program to fit a student's schedule without overwhelming it.
Virtual Calls Approximately 2 per year with the national student cohort.
In-Person Events Up to 2 per year — food industry conferences, national gatherings, or NxtGen-hosted events.
Community Platform Active participation in the NxtGen Ambassadors Slack workspace — connect, share content, and collaborate.
Content Creation Students are encouraged (not required) to create content representing their school meal program in their own words and style.
Local Council For students at districts with existing youth councils, a minimum number of council meetings per year is required to maintain ambassador status.
There are no daily obligations. This is not a class and it is not graded. Students participate because they want to, and the program is built to reward that motivation.
A NOTE ON TRAVEL
NxtGen Network coordinates and covers travel logistics for all national events. A parent or guardian is required to accompany students to in-person events that involve overnight travel. Local events and sessions — including any held at or near your student's school — do not require travel. You will always be notified in advance of any event requiring travel, with full details before you confirm attendance. No travel commitment is required to join. Students who cannot attend in-person events can still participate fully. MEDIA, CONTENT & YOUR STUDENT'S LIKENESS NxtGen Ambassadors is a content program. Students may appear in photos, videos, podcast recordings, and social media content produced through the program. This content may be used by NxtGen Network and its partner school districts to promote school nutrition programs. Your consent for your student's participation in media and content will be requested separately on the parent consent form. You will have the opportunity to specify any limitations or restrictions.
No content featuring your student will be published without your written consent. Consent is requested separately and can include limitations or restrictions.
